French navy gathering and Spanish naval shipbuilding according to the Dutch newspaper Oprechte Haarlemse Courant dated 9 June 1808

According to an item dated Paris 4 June were French squadrons gathering at several locations. The new force on the river Schelde was all ready of a considerable strength and within 30 days was a squadron of nearly 30 large ships lying on the roads of Flushing and Antwerp, an even larger squadron on the roads of Bretagne and there was an allied squadron at Lisbon. In that harbour was also a division of some new ships in the best possible state captured through the quick response of general Junot. The events ins Spain replaced a badly controlled and aged monarchy into a full alive constitutional monarchy. The yards at Cadiz, Ferrol and Cartagena experienced the fullest the effects. From Toulon, Spezzia, Venice, Netherlands, Spain and Italy were commodities like iron, hemp, timber and so on to arrive for the building and fitting out of the so needed warships.
