For years was in the
Netherlands a magazine published dealing with maritime affairs in the whole
world, navy and merchant. At the yard of mr. Webb at New York was 21 October
the screw steamship Generaal-Admiraal, built for Russian account. Her
dimensions were (in English feet) 325 (maximum) x 55 (maximum) x 34 (hold).
Fitted out in the ‘kuil’
(waist?) with 44 port-holes in the sides and 2 stern port-holes, upper deck 30
port-holes in the sides and 4 large chaser port-holes and 4 large stern
port-holes. She was to be armed with 40 shell guns of large calibre and 20 long
guns, with 2 pivot guns of the largest calibre place on the upper deck. The
crew had a diameter of 19½ feet, horsepower was 2000 nominal hp.
