The French and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 20 September 1837

At Toulon, France arrived 12 September a steamboat which left Tunis 2 days earlier. At that moment were both French squadrons off Goleta, Tunisia while general was believed that the Turkish fleet was afraid to come. According to rumours returned this fleet after landing troops at the coast of Tripoli, Libya even back to Constantinople. At Marseille, France were in the evening of 12 September 2 battalions of the 12th regiment embarked on board of 7 transports (of which some were Austrian ) destined towards Constantine.
