The Greek and Turkish navies in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 31 August 1824

Augsburg, 24 August. The Allgemeine Zeitung published a topic earlier published in the newspaper the courant of Florence. That newspaper used tidings from Corfu dated 24 July which on their return were based on reliable merchant trade letters and the courant of Missolunghi dated 16 July and dealing with earlier events. When the Turkish were plundering Ipsara suddenly 80 Greek ships attacked with unbelievable courage. Three Turkish frigates were sunk, the ship of the admiral dismasted and the remaining ships fled partly to the Dardanelles and partly to Lemnos. A part of the expedition of the vice roi of Egypt arrived at Casso where 16 Greek vessels were captured and the inhabitants fled to the mountains. The Greek send however a flotilla to Casso which managed to recapture their own vessels and capture 7 vessels flying European flags which were hired on account of the vice roi and loaded with cash and war stores.
