The navies of Naples [Sicilies] and Austria in 1821 according to the local Dutch newspaper Goessche Courant

This local Dutch newspaper published a few items dealing with the navies of Naples and Austria in a time that the relations between both countries reached the lowest point.

2 April. The fleet of Naples was cruising in the Adriatic while the Austrian fleet didn’t leave the harbour of Ancona.

7 May. According to tidings out of Venice dated 17 April were the rumours that the Austrian fleet that she suffered badly and lost vessels and a lot of sailors untrue, in fact she was in a good condition. The 3rd left the squadron commanded by general major marquis De Paolucci Lissa southwards for cruising in the waters of Aaulie (?) without having knowledge of the agreements made at Naples. The 9th she arrived off San Angelo. The squadron of Naples captured the 11th an Austrian brig with orders on board. The brig left Ancona earlier. She was released the 29th and arrived 5 May at Lisbon. Confirming to her orders the squadron stayed in the meantime in sight of Naples.

8 May. According to tidings out of Naples arrived her squadron of which a long time wasn’t heard of at the capital city.
