British cruiser Minotaur launched according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 8 June 1906

At Devonport was the British cruiser Minotaur launched. She was according to the news item the heaviest armed cruiser of the world with an unusually number of heavy guns.(1)

1. Armoured cruiser laid down at the Devonport Dockyard on 2 January 1905, on 6 June a year later launched, commissioned on 1 April 1908, decommissioned on 5 February 1919 and sold to be broken up in April 1920. With a displacement of 14.800 tons/14.600 long tons were her dimensions 149,4 (between eprpendiculars)-158,2 (over all) x 22,7 x 7,9 metres or 490’-519’x 74.5’x 26’. The 27.000 ihp allowed a speed of 23 knots. Her crew numbered 825 men. The armament consisted of 2x2-9.2”guns, 10x1-7.5” guns, 16x12 pdr quick firing guns and 5-18”/45cm torpedo tubes. The armour consisted of a 8-15xcm thick belt, 4-5cm thick dekc, while the barbettes, gun turrets and conning tower were protected by respectively 18, 11-20cm and 25cm thick armour.
