Russian troops returning via the Dutch East Indies back home according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 13 July 1906
An item referred to the government account of
Atjeh, Dutch East Indies over May reporting that the auxiliary cruiser Lena
visited Sabang to load coal. The British steamship Bengali arrived with on
board 71 officers and 3.650 warrant officers and soldiers, a complete brigade
of 3 regiments infantry. It was the last Russian transport coming out of East
Asia destined for Odessa. The commanding officer responsible for this transport
requested the local government to embark 9 officers and 960 men lacking
sufficient accommodation as became clear during the voyage coming from
Vladivostok. They were accommodated in empty coal storehouses waiting for the
Pallada. The army supplied cooking tools for the tools being. The Russian
troops behaved well and departed on 14 June with the Pallada homewards.
