Swedish sailors demanded release of German communist Ernst Thaelmann according to the Dutch newspaper De Tribune dated 12 September 1934

An item reported that on board of the Swedish warship Drottning Victoria sailors hoisted a large flag with the text freedom for Ernst Thaelmann.(1) At Carlskrona demonstrated hundreds of sailors of the navy for release of Thaelmann.

1. Ernst Thälmann (16 April 1886 Hamburg-18 August 1944 Buchenwald), leader of the German Communist Party (KPD) who was arrested in 1933 by the Gestapo and in 1944 executed.
