Dutch cargo ship Orion 1914-1940 and German transport RO 9 1940-1945


Built in 1914 by A. Vuijk&Zonen, Capelle a/d Ijssel with yard number 426 and fitted out with a 196 nhp tropele expansion engine manufactured by Maatschappij Fijenoord N.V. of Rotterdam, Netherlands for account of the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomboot Maatschappij (KNSM) of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Seized on 6 August 1940 at Rotterdam after the invasion of the Netherlands and commissioned in German naval service as the transport RO 9, since 1942 managed by the Deuesche Afrika Linie. On 18 March 1945 sunk during a Russian air attack off Scholpin when she was in German service as the R9. Gross register tonnage 1.722 tons and as dimensions 94,5 x 13,2 x 4,0 metres. Speed 10,5 knots. IMO 5603788 and callsign PGPA.
