Russian navy modernizes according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche staatscourant dated 1 August 1856

An item referred to Russian tidings received from St. Petersburg, Russia reporting that the navy was increased and modernized. When the latest war begun (1) consisted the Russian navy almost of sailing ships. Since then were some steam ships of the line and a large number of steam gunboats added to the fleet. In last April were six of sun gunboats launched and a month later 2 corvettes and 4 sloops, all screw steamships built at the shipyards at St. Petersburg. At Archangelsk, Russia was within 5 months a 150hp steam clipper built.
