German protected cruiser SMS Hertha 1895-1920

Of the Victoria Louise-class. Contracted name “K“. Laid down at the AG Vulkan shipyard, Stettin, Germany with yard number 223 as an protected cruisers in October 1895,  launched on 14 April 1897, commissioned on 23 July 1898, classified as large cruiser in 1899,used as training ship since 1908, coastal defence ship since the end of 1914, barrack at the seaplane base at Flensburg, Germany since 1915stricken on 6 December 1919 and broken up at Audorf-Rendsburg in 1920. Building costs 9.932.000 German Mark.

Displacement (full combat load) 6.491 tons/6.388 long tons/7.155 short tons and as dimensions 110,6 (over all) x 17,4 x 6,58 metres or 363 x 57 x 21.6 feet. The three vertical 4 cylinder triple expansion steam engines and 12 coal-fired Belleville boilers allowed a speed of  19 knots and with a speed of 12 knots a range of 3.412 nautical miles. Her crew numbered 477 men. The armament consisted of 2x1-21cm/8.3” guns, 8x1-15cm/5.9” L/40 quick firing guns, 10-8,8cm/3.5” guns and 3 submerged 45 cm/18” torpedo tubes.
