Technical design specifications for new building American 6.000 ton cruisers according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1899 no. 1

An item reported that commodore Philip Hichborn, chief of the US Bureau of Construction and Repair since 23 July 1893, proposed that the next to be built 6.000 tons cruiser was to have a speed of 20 knots and an armament of 2-20cm guns behind shield, 14-12,7cm guns, 8-7,6cm guns, 8-5,7cm guns, 4-37,cm quick firing guns and 6 machineguns.
