An item dated Portsmouth, USA 18th reported the launching a day earlier of a submarine at the navy yard which was twice as large as the submarines until then built. She was to be the first of a squadron of 5 submarines which should be able to follow the battleships despite the weather conditions or maximum speed.(1)
