East German project 205 205 Osa I guide missile boats 1962-1990


The Project 205 Moskit which was by the NATO called Osa-class and designed as large missile cutters for the Russian navy in the 1950s. Originally classified as large torpedo boats but since 1962 as guided missile boats. Also called fast attack craft. There are several subtypes including an export version. Totally were more as 400 of these boats built in the Soviet Union while China built herself another 120. East Germany which was part of the Warsaw Pact received between 1962 and 1971 totally 15 of these boats of the OSA-I design which were finally decommissioned between 1981 and 1990.

Details according to Jane’s Fighting ships 1976-1977: displacement 165 (standard)-200 (full load) tons and as dimensions 39,3 x 7,7 x 1,8 metres or 128.7 x 25.1 x 5.9 feet. The 3 diesels supplied 123.000 h[ allowing a speed of 36 knots. The armament consisted of 2x2cm guns (one fore, one aft) and 2x2 mountings for SSN2- guided missiles.
