Akagi as aircraft carrier

An item reported that in the coming summer with the building was started of the 44.000 tons Japanese battle cruisers Amagi and Akagi.(1)

Note
1. There were 4 units planned namely the Amagi, Akagi, Atago and Takao, essentially based on a modified Tosa-class design. The Akagi was completed although as an aircraft carrier. The other ships were broken up as a result of the Washington Naval Treaty. The Amagi was just like the Akagi to be converted into an aircraft carrier but heavily damaged beyond repairs during the earthquake in September 1923. Displacement 41.217 tons (standard)-47.000 tons (full load) and a main armament of 5x2-41cm/16” L/45guns.
