French Parliament approved building 26.000 tons battleship according to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 28 January 1932

An item dated Paris, France 27th reported that the French naval commission of the Chamber approved the proposal to build a 26.000 tons battleship which was already decided in the past.(1)

1. Of the Dunkerque-class consisting of the Dunkerque and the Strasbourg, of which the first was laid down on 24 December 1932, as an answer on the German Deutschland pocket battleships. Displacement 26.900 (standard)-35.500 (full load) tons and a main armament of 2x4-33cm/13”/50 Modèle 1931 guns (super firing turrets both on fore ship) against the Deutschland-class with a displacement of 10.800 (standard)-14.520 (full load) tons and a main armament of 2x3-28cm/11” (1 fore, 1 aft).
