An item referred to the German magazine Schiffbau reporting that on 29 May by the Fore River Shipbuilding Co., Quincy, Massachusetts, USA the American scout Birmingham was launched. In contrary to the turbines of her sister ship Salem was she to be fitted out with vertical expansion steam engines.(1)
