British firm Thornycroft ordered to built another six torpedo boats for Royal Netherlands Navy according to the Dutch Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemagt 1877-1878

An item reported that firm Thornycroft at London, England was ordered to built another 6 torpedo boats. An earlier spar torpedo boat built this firm was used for building 3 similar boats by Dutch shipyards. The results of this experiment were of the highest importance of the Dutch shipbuilding industry if she was allowed more of such boats. (1)

1. The involved shipyards were the Kon. Mij. De Schelde at Vlissingen, Nederlandsche Stoombootmaatschappij Fijenoord, Rotterdam and Koninklijke Fabriek van stoom- en andere werktuigen, Amsterdam building the X-XII. Members of the Second Chamber protested against this experiment as they feared it would fail. It did not.
