Dutch submarine (ex-HMS Tarn 1943-1944) Hr.Ms. Tijgerhaai 1945-1965


Laid down by Vickers-Armstrong, Barrow, England on 12 June 1943, launched on 29 November 1944, handed over to the Royal Netherlands Navy, commissioned on 28 March 1945, decommissioned on 11 November 1964 and sold to be broken up on 5 November 1965.

In British service part of the T-class and in in Royal Netherlands Navy part of the Zwaardvisch-class. Displacement 1.290 (surfaced)-1.560 (submerged) tons and as dimensions 84,28 x 7,77 x 3,89 (fore)-4,45 (aft) metres or 276.6 x 25.6 x 12.9-14,7 feet. The machinery consisted of 2 x 2.500hp diesel engines (twin) and 2 x 1.450hp electric motors (twin) driving 2 shafts allowing a speed of 15,5 (surfaced)-9 9submerged) knots and a surfaced rang of 4.500 nautical miles with a speed of 11 knots. Maximum test dive depth 91metres/300 feet. Crew numbered 61 men. The armament consisted of 11-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes (6 internal forward-facing, 2 external forward-facing , 2 external amidships rear-facing, 1 external rear-facing), for which 6 spar torpedoes were carried, 1-10cm/4” quick firing gun and 3 anti aircraft machineguns.
