Swedish torpedo cruiser Örnen 1895-1947 (1950)


Of the Örnen-class torpedo cruisers, consisting of the Örnen, Claes Horn, Jacob Bagge, Psilander and Claes Uggla, laid down by Lindholmen, Göteborg, Sweden in 1895, launched on 6 August 1896, completed in May 1897, training ship since 1920, afterwards depot ship since 1926 and cadet ship, stricken on 13 June 1947 and used as target in 1950.

Displacement 844 tons and as dimensions 67,7 (over al) x 8,20 x 3,07 maximum) metres. Machinery consisted of vertical triple expansion steam engines and 8 boilers supplying via 2 shafts 4.000 hp allowing a speed pf 20 knots and with the coal bunker capacity of 105 tons and a speed of 12 knots a range of 1.200 nautical miles. The armour consisted of a 1,2-1,9cm thick turtleback deck. Crew numbered 113 men. Armament consisted of 2x1-12cm 45cal M/94guns, 4x1-5,7cm /50 K 55 M89B guns (replaced 1941 by 82,5cm/1”machineguns and 2-2cm machineguns), 1-38cm submerged torpedo tube in the bow and 12 mines.
