Bulgarian navy vessels on the Danube according to a CIA report dated 16 December 1954

An item dealing with the Bulgarian part of the river Danube reported that on the river three Bulgarian naval vessels were active, namely the wood built Chernomorets probably measuring maximum 30 tons, the 25 tons Belomorets and the 20 tons Dunva which possessed an iron made bottom. The with light and heavy machineguns and rifles armed ships were used for training young seamen and sweeping or laying minefields. Their homeport was the harbour of Ruse which was only left for training activities in Bulgarian waters. Strangely the report continues with saying that there were none Russian ships on the Danube but just three small iron build motor ships of the Bulgarian navy used for training purposes and with crews numbering 30 men. Probably these are the same ships mentioned before. New vessels were under construction an already some arrived from the Stalin Shipyards. Ruse was the main anchorage location.
