The American shipbuilding program for the next period according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad No. 4 dated April 1940

An item referred to the Times dated 15 January 1940 reporting that the American fleet building program of the next years included 2-35.000 ton mail ships to serve in the Pacific which in times of war immediately could be converted into aircraft carriers. The funnels were not amidships positioned. The expected speed was more as 30 knots and the ships could carry 75 aircraft.
