American whaler Eliza leaving Port Russell, New Zealand according to the New Zealand newspaper Daily Southern Cross dated 28 June 1873

Fishermen in boats have been attacking a whale but one boat is upset and a man is falling out.

An item reported the departure from the port of Russell, New Zealand on 14 June of the American whaler barque Eliza master Dimond bound for New Bedford, USA.(1)

Note

1. Whalemen's Shipping List dated 8 April 1873 reported as homeport New Bedford, USA, of 296 tons, agents Jonathan Bourne Jr., departure on 14 August 1869.
