Japanese gathering transports on the Chindwin river, Burma according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 26 May 1942

An item reported that on the Chindwin river [Burma=Myanmar] 3 enemy river steamships, 9 barges and 33 paddle steamships with a transport capacity of 150 men or 90 tons were sighted between Kalewa and Thaungdut and 5 barges at Tamu. Probably is was a Japanese force with the intention to follow the British forces retreating to India.
