An item reported that around 13 enemy submarines were active off the North American coast between Miami and a point 350 miles east of Newfoundland, Canada. Five seemed to be in the north eastern part of this area and destined for west of south west positions. In the past week had been no definite submarine contacts in the Caribbean-West Indies as far a known. One submarine was west of a point halfway between the Azores and the Lesser Antilles probably bound for the Caribbean-West Indies and a second one further west returning home from the Caribbean. Four others which seemed to have contacted a supply vessel were also halfway between the Azores and the Lesser Antilles. As far known were the 19 units all submarines present on the Atlantic west of the longitude of the Azores.
