An item reported that the US naval authorities closed the Venezuelan oil harbour of Las Piedras for an unknown period. The tankers which were loading there could not be sufficient enough be protected. In peace time was daily between 80.000-100.000 barrels oil handled. The J.I.C. commented that at Las Piedras located near the entrance to Lake Maracaibo was the Venezuelan oil transferred from lake tankers to ocean going tankers.
