Germany intended to establish a naval base in China according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 24 November 1897

An item referred to the Standard which received tidings from Berlin, Germany reported that Germany already informed in the spring Russia, Austria and Italy of the German intention to establish a naval base in China.(1)
