British warships HMS Sussex and Amethyst bound for Chinese harbours according to the Dutch newspapers Het dagblad dated Tuesday 23 November 1948

An item reported that the British cruiser HMS Sussex (1) was to depart on Wednesday from Hong Kong towards Shanghai where she was expected to arrive on Thursday. The sloop HMS Amethyst (2) was to arrived on Wednesday at Nanking, China coming from Hong Kong. According to an official statement were both voyages already in the past decided. It was not the intention to evacuate British subjects.(3)
