Japanese naval food supply ship Mamiya 1922-1944

Laid down by Kawasaki Shipyards, Japan on 25 October 1922, launched on 26 October 1923, completed on 15 July 1924 and sunk by the American submarine USS Sealion on 21 December 1944. Planned to serve as a oil transport but converted into a food supply ship. Displacement 16,074 tons and as dimensions 475.1 (over all) x 61.0 x 27.8 feet or 144,8 x 18,59 x 8,.43 metres.The reciprocating steam engine and 8 boilers supplied via one shaft 10,000 knots allowing a speed of 12 (normal cruising)-14 (maximum) knots; other sources stating maximum 19,4 knots. Range of 6,000 nautical miles/14 knots. Crew numbered 283 men. The armament consisted of 2-14cm/5.5” L/50 3rd Year Type guns and 2-7,62cm/3” L/40 3rd Year Type anti aircraft guns.
