Japanese naval operations limited to the Shortland Islands area according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 23 August 1942

An item reported that Allied aircraft sighted on 20 August a continuance of Japanese ship operations in the Shortland Islands area but no activity at Kieta, Bougainville Islands and Buka. The Allied position in the Solomon Islands was consolidated.
