An item reported that the French cruiser Montcalm flagship of rear admiral Thomine C.B. departed on 14 January Brest, France to join the Far Eastern Division.(1)

Part of Gueydon-class armoured cruisers, preceded by Jeanne d’Arc and succeeded by Dupleix-class, laid down by Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerannée on 27 September 1898, launched on 27 March 1902, commissioned on 24 March 1902, stricken on 28 October 1926, accommodation ship since 28 October 1928, renamed Tréminton on 26 September 1934 and sunk by the British Royal Air Force at Brest, France on 16 August 1944.
