Austrian cruiser SMS Leopard visited Sabang, Dutch East Indies in 1909

The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1908-1909 reported that the Austrian cruiser SMS Leopard (1) visited Sabang, Dutch East Indies on 4 March 1909.(2)

Notes

1. Laid down by Armstrong, Elswick, England in January 1885, launched on 10 September 1885, completed on 31 March 1886, handed over to England as war prize and sold to Italian shipbreakers to be scrapped in 1920. Part of Panther class torpedo cruisers, preceded by SMS Lussin and succeeded by SMS Tiger. Displacement 1,582 tons, armament 2-12cm/4.7 guns, 4-4.7cm/1.9”quick firing guns, 6-4.7cm/1.9” revolver cannon and 4-35.6cm/14” torpedo tubes.

2. Sabang had an important coal bunkering station visited by Dutch and international warships and merchant shipping.
