The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1908-1909 reported that the Italian cruiser Vesuvio (1) visited Sabang, Dutch East Indies between 29-30 January 1909.(2)

1. Part of Etna-class protected cruisers, preceded by Giovanni Bausan, succeeded by Dogali, laid down by Cantiere navale fratelli Orlando, Livorno, Italy on 10 July 1883, launched on 16 March 1888, commissioned on 16 March 1888, stricken on 11 May 1911 and sold to be broken up in 1915.
2. Sabang had an important coal bunkering station visited by Dutch and international warships and merchant shipping
