Part of Gazelle-class light cruisers preceded by SMS Hela succeeded by Bremen-class. Laid down under contract name ‘D’ by AG Weser Shipyard, Bremen, Germany on 14 December 1899, launched on 10 August 1900, commissioned on 18 May 1901 and sunk by the British in the Battle of Helgoland Bight on 28 August 1914.
