Designed by the Department of the Controller of the Navy and engined by Messrs. J. Elder&Co., Glasgow, Scotland. Designer chief constructor of the Royal Navy (1885-1902) Sir William White (2 Feburary 1845 Plymouth)-27 February 1913 London). Laid down by Portsmouth Dockyard on 24 Feburary 1874, launched on 27 April 1876, commissioned on 5 July 1881, Portsmouth guard ship until 1897, Fleet reserve after 1897, Dockyard Reserve since April 1902 sold to be broken up in 1903.
