Designer chief constructor of the Royal Navy (1872-1885) Sir Nathaniel Barnaby (25 February 1829 Chatham-16 June 1915 London. To counter the French armoured corvettes of the Alma and La Galissonnière classes and the Russian armoured cruisers General-Admiral and sister Gerzog Edinburgski. Laid down by Pembroke Dockyard on 29 August 1873, launched on 11 November 1875, commissioned on 17 September 1877 and sold to be broken up on 12 December 1899.
