Nanko Maru, Saiho Maru, Toho Maru and similar Ryusei Maru and Nansin Maru. Call sign JHIA. Laid down by Russell&Co., Port Glasgow, Scotland on 20 June 1916 with yard number 690, completed in November 1916 and lost in Bashi Channel on 11 June 1943. Gross tonnage 4,714 tons, under deck 4,319 tons, net tonnage 2,950 tons and as dimensions 385.0 x 52.0 x 26.5 x 7.6 (light)-24 (loaded) feet. Reciprocating propulsion, single screw, 489 nhp, coal bunker capacity 1,850 tons, speed 12 knots (maximum) and range 13,000 nautical miles/10 knots.

  1. Is this an accurate drawing of Nanko Maru? My grandfather served on her when she was Ardgrange/Wigmore. If anyone has any photos I'd love to see them. Many thanks.
