Part of L- or Laforey-class preceded by K- or Acasta-class succeeded by Admiralty M-class. Redesignated as L-class in October 1913 and the original plannes names were replaced by names starting with the letter ‘L’ on 30 September 1913. Based on the HMS Fortune of the Acasta-class, which was a builders’ special not using the common Admiralty design. Except for the Laurel, Liberty, Lark, Landrail, Laverock and Linnel which had each two funnels of equal heigh, were the other ships fitted out with 3 funnels of which the middle one was thicker. Totally 22 built.
