The French fleet in the Mediterranean according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 6 September 1837

The bey of Constantine still wanted to start a war against the French government probably supported in his opinion by the Turkish sultan. In the mean time were probably all ready some ships with war stores and arms send by the sultan towards this bey and arrived in the ports of Tunis and Tripoli. There was some fear that the French fleet would arrive to late to prevent the Turkish fleet entering the port of La Goleta (Tunis).
