Portuguese attack on the island Taporica according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 5 April 1823

London, 1 April. Letters from Bahia dated 20 January reported that the Portuguese general Madeira attacked the island Taporica with 2 brigs, 20 gun barges and some smaller vessels all heavy armed and 1.500 men. After 5 hours fighting and losses of 200 men the Portuguese were forced to retreat.
