Italian submarine Giada 1940-1966

Of the Acciaio-class, laid down at the Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico, Montfalcone, Italy 16 October 1940, launched 10 July 1941, commissioned 6 December 1941. After Italy declared war on Germany she was rebuilt for service as a ASW target with the British Eastern Fleet. Between April and October she served at Colombo, Ceylon (nowadays Sri Lanka). After her arrival at Taranto, Italy she saw none active service until the end of the Second World War. After the war indicated as the V.2, in 1849 rebuilt in to a battery-charging hulk. In the years 1952-1953 again rebuilt now into a Guppy type submarine. Finally stricken in 1966.
