Hellevoetsluis not longer used as Dutch naval base according to the Dutch newspaper Vlissingse Courant dated 11 October 1919
The minister of navy answered the town council of Hellevoetsluis, Netherlands that the port wasn’t anymore suitable as a main naval base while large ships (like the coastal defence ship Hr.Ms. Kortenaer of 1894 coming from sea couldn’t enter the port neither could submarines reach or leave the port while being submerged. The experiences of the war committed that Vlissingen, Netherlands was now a important naval base resulted in stricken Hellevoetsluis as major base from the naval defence plan and probably would never recover this position. As a repair yard for smaller vessels including submarines who were able to reach Hellevoetsluis by using inland waters was Hellevoetsluis still of importance for the navy.
