According to a tiding from Rome were on 1 January 1938 as a result of the naval budget 2 battleships of 35.000 ton on stocks(1), 12 destroyers, 16 torpedo boats, 4 aviso’s, 22 submarines and 2 minelayers. Since then was decided to set another 2 battleships, 12 destroyers of 2,000 ton and some submarines on stocks. The naval budget for 1938/1939 amounted 2.013.000.000 lire, which was 155.000.000 lire more as the current budget.

1. The Littorio-class of 4 units, preceded by planned Francesco Caracciolo-class and realized Andrea Doria-class although in stead of 35.000 tons was their displacement 40.724-45.236 (full load) tons.
