Brazilian torpedo gunboat Tiradentes 1892-1920’s


Laid down in 1891, launched in 1892 and a year later completed was she stricken in the 1920’s. With a hull of steel and further wood-sheathed while the forecastle and poop were raised. With a displacement of 795 tons were her dimensions 165’ (between perpendiculars) x 30 x 10’9”(mean) or 50,29 x 9,14 x 3,28 metres. The engines provided 1,646 ihp allowing a speed of 14,5 knots while she had a coal bunker capacity of 50-110 tons. The conning tower was protected by a 1” thick armour of steel. Her crew numbered 110 men and she was armed with 4x1-4.7 guns, 3x1-6pdr guns and 2-14” torpedo tubes.
