The Greek and Turkish navies in the Levant according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 18 January 1823

Frankfurt, 12 January. The Greek captains Muialy and Pipines which commanded the fire ships one dressed in Greek and the other Turkish clothes were promoted by the senate of Ipsara as honorary members. After the events in June which caused the downfall of the Captain Pasha they needed a list for a new attack. Pipines was dressed as an Ottoman and entered the Turkish fleet pretending being pursued by Muialy. It was the Captain himself who shouted to come nearer. Pipines escaped in a small boat seeing the largest ship of the line with on board the treasury exploding with 2.200 men (slip for 1.600) while the Captain pasha hardly escaped.
