Russian armoured cruiser Rurik not well build according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 28 November 1908

A news item reported the conflict between the British yard of Vickers&Co. and the Russian government dealing with the new Rurik which was to replace the one in 1904 destroyed by the Japanese navy. The yard was well known for her well shipbuilding as proved by the splendid Japanese cruisers she build. But when the Rurik was handed over to Russia it was soon discovered that there were large problems with this ship. During test shooting were all six gun turrets in such a manner sag that continuing the shooting would be dangerous for the ship. The yard claimed that Russia delivered bad design drawings while Russia claimed that the drawing were worse executed. And the Rurik was nothing worth until the fundaments of the turrets were improved.
