The Turkish navy in the Black Sea according to the Dutch newspaper ‘s-Hertogenbossche Courant dated 11 August 1778

Constantinople, 3 July. The Grand Admiral arrived finally with his squadron in the Black Sea. It consisted of 8 ships of the line, 2 frigates, 4 galleys. 1 bomb galliot and around 30 transports. With the first favourable wind would a second division of 3 ships of the line and 4 frigates including the two purchased in England and a large number of transports loaded with war stores join the Grand Admiral. When both squadrons will be joined by the ships all ready on the Black Sea the fleet will consist of 20 ships of the line, 10 frigates, 4 galleys, 1 bomb galliot and more as 100 transports. At Sinope and environment were 150,000 men commanded by Pasha Giunakli waiting to join him apparently to repel Sahim Gueray who was supported by the Russian court from the Crim.
