The Koninklijke Shell gave the yard of the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij the order of for building 3 tankers with a cargo capacity of 12,100 tons. These 3 tankers were similar to the one the RDM was building for Shell and also were to be fitted out with Werkspoor Supercharged diesels
