Italian submarine Enrico Tazzoli (S511) (1941) 1955-1972

Laid down on 7 June 1941 at the shipyard of the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporations, Groton, Connecticut as the USN Barb (SS220), launched on 2 April a year later (sponsored by Mrs. Dunn spouse of rear admiral Charles A. Dunn and commissioned on 8 July, decommissioned 12 February, again n service on 3 December 1951, decommissioned on 5 February 3 years later rebuild in the Greater Underwater Propulsion Power Program (GUPPY), in the same year temporarily in service between 3 August and 13 December and handed over to Italy on 13 December or 31 January 1955 and finally sold to be broken up in 1972.. Of the Gato-class. With a displacement of 1,525 (surfaced)-2,425 (submerged) tons are her dimensions 311¼ x 27-27’3” x 17 feet (maximum) or 95,02 x 8,31 x 5,2 metres. The armament consisted of 10-21” torpedo tubes (bow 6 and the stern 4). The 4 General Motor V16 diesels supplied 6,500 bhp allowing a surfaced speed of 32 knots while electric motor supplied 2,760 hp allowing a submerged speed of 11, 5 knots. Further more had she a fuel bunker capacity of 300 tons and with a speed of 10 knots a range of 12,000 nautical miles.
