She was ordered on 15 September 1985 as part of the Defence Co-operation Programme Australia and commissioned by Vanatua in 13 June 1987 with the Royal Australian Navy responsible for training of the crew and maintenance of the vessel. With a displacement of 165 tons (full load) are the dimensions 31,5 x 8,1 x 2,1 metres or 103.3 x 26.6. X 6.9 feet. The two caterpillars 3516 diesels supplied 2,820 bhp and through two shafts allowing a speed of 18 knots and with a speed of 12 knots she has a range of 2,500 nautical miles. Her crew numbers 18 men and she was from origin armed with 1-2cm gun and 2-12,8mm machineguns. This is a so-called ASI (Australian Shipbuilding Industries) 315 patrol boat or Pacific Forum class boat.
